Limitations on compatibility in the first release of Mac OS X Server:
♦ The DVD drive may be used only with CD-ROM discs (no DVD-RAM).
♦ Only one USB port can be used. (Either port can be used.) The mouse must be plugged into the keyboard. You cannot plug in and unplug the keyboard or mouse while the computer is turned on.
♦ If starting up from a SCSI disk, Mac OS X Server can start up only from a disk attached to the first SCSI card.
♦ FireWire does not work.
♦ Software RAID does not work.
Memory
64 MB of RAM. More memory may be required for certain services, to support a large number of clients, or for maximum performance.
Hard disk
1 GB hard disk. A larger disk may be required for certain services, to work with a large number of clients, or for maximum performance.
Video
Mac OS X Server works with built-in video and Apple-supplied video cards.
Unsupported Configurations
As a convenience for developers who have used older computers with developer releases, or who need to demonstrate their software using PowerBooks, Apple has provided a mechanism for installing Mac OS X Server on certain unsupported configurations.
The server services of Mac OS X Server are qualified for use only on a single Power Macintosh G3 or Macintosh Server G3 with at least 64 MB of RAM. You should not use Mac OS X Server installed on an unsupported configuration in a production server environment. Performance, reliability, and functionality may all be significantly degraded when running on an unsupported configuration. Apple does not provide assistance with any difficulties you encounter if you attempt to operate Mac OS X Server on an unsupported configuration.
