You can also change whether a segment is a line or a curve by changing the nature of the preceding handle. To change a selected poly line handle to a spline handle, select Loosen from the Splines/Lines menu. To change a selected spline handle into a poly line point, select Collapse from the Splines/Lines menu. (See Chapter 5 or Spline tool above for a complete description of the Splines/Lines Menu.)

As with splines and poly lines, you can create open or closed spline lines. When the Outline inspector is activated (it is always activated when new objects are created), you can control whether the outlined spline line is open or closed with the Open Path and Close Path buttons in the Attributes inspector. When the Outline inspector is not activated, the spline line is closed and filled with the color that appears in the Plain Fill color well in the Attributes inspector (please refer to the descriptions of the Attributes and Outline inspectors in Chapter 4).

The following commands from the Splines/Line submenu of the Object
menu apply to selected Spline Line objects (see Spline tool above for
more information on the Spline/Lines menu):

    Add Handle
    Delete Handle
