The Tool Palette |
| | |

|
 |
The Tool palette appears above every document. The tool palette is always visible at program startup. It can be hidden by choosing "Tools->Hide Tools". You'll use the Tool palette to choose the kind of graphic objects you create and to choose the selection tool which allows you to select objects for editing. |

Selecting Objects
In order to manipulate objects in a Create window you must first select them. You can tell that an object is selected when handles (small rectangles) appear around the object's bounding box (except for lines and curves where a handle appears at each end). The bounding box is an invisible rectangle that encloses the entire object. You can set the size of these handles in the Preferences panel (see Preferences in Chapter 5). An object's bounding box is different from its outline. You can select one or more objects. You can select objects in several ways:
-- Create automatically selects the object that you just created. If you are creating a series of objects and you want them all to be selected, hold down the Shift key as you create the objects.
-- You can change which object is selected by using the selection controls (arrow buttons) in the lower right corner of the inspector panel. Use the left and right arrows to scroll through the objects you have created. The scroll order is determined by the layering of the objects: the right arrow selects the next object closer to the front, and the left arrow selects the next object further from the front. Use the straight line button to deselect all objects. For more information on scroll order, please see Selection controls in Chapter 4. |
