Align to Grid? When you align objects to the grid, you specify that an object's boundaries will line up with the grid, horizontally or vertically or both depending on what is selected in the Horizontal and Vertical controls. When you align more than one object to the grid, Create aligns the top object to the grid and then lines up the rest of the objects with the top object. If you want to change the object on top, you must reestablish the layering order (see Layering in Chapter 3). This option is only active when Snap to Grid is selected in the View inspector (see Grid below).

Setting the alignment
Choose whether you want objects to align to each other or to the grid and each other. In order to align with the grid, the grid must be on.

When you align objects with each other, you can specify that the objects' boundaries line up horizontally or vertically. Objects line up with the selected object that is closest to the top of the layering order.
