The gray positioning lines in the Skew controller help you skew relative to the size of your object. The middle horizontal line represents the baseline of your object. The upper horizontal line represents the height of your object with no skew applied. The numbers represent the offset of the upper left hand corner of the object from the origin of the object. So no skew is 0,1 because there is no horizontal offset, and the vertical offset is 1 unit, where a unit is the size of your original object.

Skew's horizontal offset and vertical offset are the PostScript equivalent of [1 0 x y 0 0] concatenate. See The PostScript Language Reference Manual from Adobe Systems for more information.

Vertical Skew Flip:
Use this button to flip the hot spot to the same relative position on the other side of the y axis line.

Horizontal Skew Flip:
The Horizontal Skew Flip button moves the hot spot to the same relative position on the other side of the baseline.

Reset and Reset Inverted Buttons:
The Reset button returns your object to its normal shape and size by moving the hot spot to the intersection of the upper horizontal placement line and the vertical placement line. The Reset Inverted button allows you to quickly return an object to its unskewed state and flip it on its horizontal axis.
