The text field associated with the slider has several purposes:

Slider feedback: As you move the slider, the text field shows the current value.

Direct entry: Sometimes it's easier to enter an exact amount directly rather than trying to find it with the slider. Use standard Rhapsody editing techniques to edit the text fields and press the Return or Tab key when you're done editing. At that point, the slider position will change to reflect the new value and the selected graphic object will be updated. If the slider control is set to return whole number values (see above), the value you enter in the text field will be truncated. If you want a decimal value, hold the Shift and Alternate keys while clicking on the slider.

Entering a large value: You may want to use a value that's larger than the current slider maximum value. Where it's appropriate, you can enter a larger amount into the text field and the slider will be adjusted to provide a new maximum value. For example, the Fill slider on the Fill inspector allows you a maximum of 100 levels of fill. If you want an increased number of fill gradations, enter a larger number (200) into the fill text field that is next to the slider. Now your object will have 200 levels of fill gradations and you'll be able to use the slider to select any fill level up to 200 during your current Create session. When you quit Create, the maximum field value will return to its default (in this case 100), but you can increase it again.
